Facts, figures and issues

Many of INGCAT's members and other reputable organisations publish downloadable factsheets, short publications and web pages on numerous aspects of tobacco control. Good sources of data providing a global overview include the World Bank, World Health Organisation and the Framework Convention Alliance, as well as INGCAT’s member organisations who are specialists in particular health themes.

Best practice in tobacco control

Best practice guidelines are generally created through consultation with tobacco control professionals worldwide, taking account of new research as it emerges. Guidelines cover treatment issues, organisational practice, policy measures and other areas. Current and recently published guidelines include:

www.treatobacco.net - a website providing extensive information and all the latest evidence-based guidelines on cessation treatments. The site is available in 11 languages including Russian and Chinese.

Research in tobacco control

In addition to the research programmes of individual organisations, several societies and networks exist to promote and disseminate research in tobacco control. These include:

 

Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco - promoting scientific, clinical and policy research worldwide and raising the profile and status of tobacco-related research.

 

Global Tobacco Control Research Network - building a network of researchers and promoting the dissemination and use of research, especially in developing countries.

 

International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project - a special programme of research dedicated to tracking the effects of FCTC policy measures as they are implemented in different ways in several countries around the globe.
